Harley -- Post 04 - Recipes?

*Harley's in his kitchen, a thick book on the counter near him, and although he's washed up a bit, he's still got a bit of dust, and some blood, on his t-shirt. He looks to be unharmed, though -- it isn't his.*

*a slight frown to himself, flipping the thick book closed again as he looks up to the Dreamberry camera*

All right... This book isn't helping. Does anyone know how to cook up a sand shark, from that desert outside the city?

*guess who managed to hunt a baby sand shark thing!*

It should be fine if you cut the meat into steaks and grill them with a bit of butter and lemon... or maybe marinate them overnight in garlic and pepper first?

Lemon? *slight pause* Those are the things that're kind of like oranges, but yellow, right? *just checking! It doesn't hurt to be sure! ....and he's opening that book up again, flipping to the glossary in the back of it*

There's enough of it, I could try both ways, I think.

*finds the entry -- reading a sec* ....so I'm supposed to... put the garlic and pepper all over the meat, and put it in a big bowl or pan or something... and keep it in the fridge until it's time to cook it?

Yes, that's right. Lemons are more sour than oranges, but they give the meat a lot of flavor due to their acidic qualities.

If you're going to marinate it, then a ziplock bag would do just fine... unless you don't have any. A bowl or pan would do just as well, I suppose. Gojyo always did like the garlic best.

Mind you, I've never actually cooked shark before, so this is just a guess. It shouldn't be too different from most fish... hopefully.

A ziplock bag? You mean... one of those little things, like... *sets the Dreamberry down on the counter so he can dig one out from a drawer, holding it up* Like this?

...I don't know.

*looks over beside him, out the window to the back yard there, eyeing something out of view of the camera* ....I've got a whole lot more meat than that. I'm not sure if half of it will even fit in the fridge.

Oh. I didn't realize that you had that much.

In that case, bowls and pans would be fine. Whatever you don't end up marinating or cooking right away, you might want to freeze, since you don't want it to go bad.

I have not yet been outside of Espoir.

It would help to know how to identify one of these animals, so they can be avoided if I am ever to find myself in the desert.

*snort* It's not like it's hard to figure out what it is, if you go out there.

*he lifts up the camera to the window over the sink, to the back yard... and there lies a giant sand shark, mildly charred, and definitely cut up. Animal rights' groups would have a fit over how he killed it, likely -- but it's not too clear what he used to do that to it. What is clear is that it's huge... bigger than a shark that lives in water. Far bigger. (And this one's probably just a baby, what with what the Somarium critters guide has to say about the sharks.)*

That's a sand shark. I only saw the desert monsters come into Espoir and Somni back when we had that really freaking big sand storm a long time ago, though. These things stay out in the desert. They don't even go into the city. *so he went out and hunted one down for food? 0_o Because it looks like it.*

Why wouldn't it be? Abel mentioned people eating sharks that weren't sand sharks before, so I don't see why not...

I'm used to sharks from the sea. Not sharks for the sand.Where I come from, sharks are edible...but that was the only ones that lived in the sea. I just think getting a shark from sand would be poisonous or at least have a bunch of sand in it, which would make terrible to eat.

Psh. Abel said eating slugs would make a person sick, but I was just fine. And I kind of doubt there'll be sand in its muscles. Maybe its stomach, but....

*thinking about it* Why would the water ones be okay, and the sand ones not, anyway? That doesn't make much sense.

Well, don't sharks swallow water when they swim? Then that would mean a sand shark does the same thing with sand? Wouldn't the sand get broken down in his stomach and enter his bloodstream?

A fish living outside of water, but in sand. It's just weird to me. [And that's saying a lot coming from him] I'm wondering, if it is edible, if the sand changes the taste of the shark.

Is it? Someone else was saying there're water sharks too. But I've only seen these sand ones. I thought they were common enough out there...?

Huh, so you don't go out into the desert, then, do you.

Well, they're out there. I haven't seen them come into the city on their own... I don't think they can swim through pavement. Just sand. They ended up here during that huge storm a long time ago, though... probably managed to get blown in.

Regrettably, there is nothing in the desert I require, and so I am not quite as familiar with it.
