Harley -- Post 04 - Querying (hey, first deliberate video!)

*the video is him at home, in his living room -- there's a painting of the Karma Temple, not that many people would recognize it, hanging on the wall above the couch, and he's dressed in his now-usual green tee and jeans. The Dreamberry's sitting on the coffee table in front of him, and it looks like he's been writing something. Oh yeah, and he's back to being a human again, too, for those few people that noticed he was a pony for a while in the first place. >_>*

Okay, I'm just going to put this out there. I'd like to find out who's working on some sort of law system for Somarium, or failing that, anyone involved in enforcing what might already be here, because I need to get in touch with them about something. Thanks.

*reaches over and cuts the video*

[Javert takes a moment to visually assess the caller before responding. He is completely unfamiliar with this man. Yes, the Inspector had seen a little bit of him here and there over various Dreamberry broadcasts, but nothing more than that. He decides to hear what he has to say.]

Well, what is it?

Uh, someone pointed out something with what I was writing up for them. *erases something he'd just written, frowning at it a little, and looks back up at the Dreamberry again*

Do you know much about what's going on with whatever laws are in Somarium here? Who's involved with that, and all?

[Javert's cold gaze examines Harley like a lab specimen.]

You have attracted the attention of the correct individual. What exactly do you want?

*....going to try pretending that the look doesn't make him at all uncomfy, and get on with it while his mind's still on it.*

*....which requires that he figure out how to get to the point and accurately sum up exactly what he wants to ask. Hmm.*

*takes a breath, glancing back at the paper he's got there* ...Okay. I'm not the only person from... where I'm from, before I was here. And where we're from, everyone was at war. So, I know one of the other factions' leaders agreed that we had armistice here, but he was kind of... well, they lied to me before. And then someone else suggested having an official peace treaty, so that's what I've been working on.

But see, here's the thing. I've got a list of stuff people who sign it aren't allowed to do... but I want to put on an "or else", and the person I was talking this over with said I should check with people in charge of Somarium's law. Make sure it works with what's already getting set up here, so it's more official. Personally, I'd just say punishment's up to the person that got attacked, as long as it's not really worse than what was done to them.

[Harley is awarded with little to no response, only a flat stare, Javert's expression completely unchanging. It is just when the silence began to become uncomfortable that he speaks.]

You understand a peace treaty is meaningless when you have no territory. Are you not a single man?

Excuse me? *frowns a bit* First off, territory and numbers have absolutely no bearing whatsoever on whether someone is going to go through with hunting someone down and beating the crap out of them because they're used to doing that where they're from, if that's what they really want to do. And for your information, my territory is where I live. And my men could still show up here; just because they haven't yet doesn't mean they won't. I have friends here, too, and you know what? As far as anyone else from where I'm from is concerned, I'm sure they do count.

There's nothing meaningless about getting a written agreement about shit you can't do any more, and having the people sign it that're likely to do the stuff listed in it.

*leans back on the couch, deliberately folding his arms in an effort to look challenging, or at least halfway assertive, with what he says next, even while he takes a slow, deep breath to calm himself down, lest his mind start wandering toward reviewing the reasons for wanting the treaty in the first place.*

So. If I put an or else in there like I want to, what's the status of that, with what's already going to be enforced in Somarium? Is someone going to stop a person from killing the guy that eats him alive, or are we going to be allowed to handle our stuff like the treaty would say, without anyone telling us we can't?

[Javert coldly arches an eyebrow at Harley's strength of tone. Though he listened carefully to every impassioned word that was said, his response is short and abrupt.]

Somarium law would state that this is considered a police matter. Your treaty is not needed. Only your quick report, which is made directly to me.

[A pause.]

You are suggesting public executions on your terms, monsieur?

No.

What I'm suggesting is that I want to know what your laws have to say about someone else's personal agreement about what they will and won't tolerate, and having the consequences for breaking it also agreed to in advance.

*eyeing Javert a sec... the guy looks pretty serious. And something about his expression reminds him a little of Varin, which... could be a good thing, in this case, from what little he knows of Varin. There's a word for it, but Harley's not sure what that word is, exactly.*

What would your law say should happen to someone who decides to turn into a huge monster and eat someone else?

Well, let's think about this together shall we? It is only the Tribe Leaders that are allowed into the innermost sanctum of the Temple. Do you recall? Yourself, the [ slight look of disgust momentarily ] Embryon, the Wolves -- the Solids, the Maribel. And the Brutes. And I don't suppose I quite resemble any of them.

So. There had to be someone else there.

*rolls his eyes -- as far as he's concerned, it wasn't really an important question in the first place, of how she's seen the Temple, and he's more interested in someone calling back about the law stuff here, than playing guessing games regarding public facilities in his world with a crazy lady who thinks that monsters eating people could be a good thing.*

So did you have a reason to call, when I asked about who knows what about the law stuff in this world, or is this going to be like last time, where you keep spouting off evidence that you're still way the hell off your rocker?
